Plot[]
While ICARIS is beset by a blizzard, Sledkin is kept in the infirmary for observation. Her rantings that she was attacked by a 'very large creature' cause Olivia to decide to tell everyone about the dragons before Sledkin can. Tom is shocked to discover the others consider revealing the secret might not be a bad thing. Tom protests that revealing the secret could bring in more people like Buzzsaw and would endanger the dragons and asks the others if they are ready to risk it. Before anyone can answer, they are brought to a meeting with everyone from ICARIS. Tom believes that the meeting is about revealing the secret, but it is actually about a warning that the winter storm is getting worse and all of ICARIS is in danger. Philip reveals that the batteries that store ICARIS's power are already frozen and just then auxiliary power begins to fail. He explains that they are in grave danger because of their remote location and limited resources. He orders all the data and samples be protected from the cold, while May Wong tries to fix their failing communications to contact a ranger station for aid, Linda comes back from a supply outpost with winter gear, and he and Olivia try to bring the generator back online.
The kids are ordered to stay in Tom's dome to stay safe. Tom points out that at least the dragons are safe in the hidden world and the blizzard is keeping Olivia from revealing the secret. While on the way back to ICARIS, Linda becomes distracted by the music's she's playing, slips on a patch of ice on the road, and crashes and becomes stranded in the woods. While working on the generator, Philip learns of Linda's situation and assures Olivia all the winter gear she has will protect her from the cold. Things get worse when the generator freezes over. With things looking bleak, Jun suggests getting help from the dragons, but Tom fears that could expose the secret. D'Angelo points out the stakes are life and death, which convinces Tom on the condition the dragons aren't seen. When the dragon club leaves to find their dragons, they are unknowingly spotted by Sledkin.
At the Dragon's Lair, Tom orders D'Angelo and Eugene to search the road for Linda. He plans to have Thunder and Wu and Wei thaw and restart the generator while Feathers provides a distraction by knocking over a windmill to distract Philip and Olivia. Eugene and D'Angelo struggle to find Linda when it's too dark to see and the cold weakens Plowhorn's sense of smell. Eugene comes up with a plan to attach search lights to their dragon's horns to see and the find Linda's van. Tom and Jun work on restarting the power, unaware that Sledkin is watching them and their dragons.
D'Angelo and Eugene see the van's windows are frosted over and use it to their advantage get their dragons close. Inside the van, Linda sees the lights and strange shapes from the dragon riders, believes them to be aliens, and pretends to be asleep in hopes of going unnoticed. Back at ICARIS, Sledkin prepares to shoot Thunder with a tranquilizer dart just as he is about to restart the power. Jun sees Sledkin and tries to hide the dragons with Wu and Wei's steam, but she still shoots Thunder and startles him into accidentally frying the generator. Alex knocks Sledkin out with Feather's sonic blast, but Thunder is too woozy to move from the dart and they hear Olivia and Philip returning. D'Angelo has Plowhorn pull the van back on the road and towards, causing Linda to think she's being abducted. Thunder quickly shakes off the dart's effect, but the group is found by Olivia who is outraged by their actions and decides keeping the secret is causing too much harm. She calls for Philip, but Tom convinces her from revealing the secret until the blizzard is over. When Philip returns, Sledkin wakes up and tries to tell him about the 'giant lizards', but he believes she's hallucinating from being poisoned.
On the way back to the Dragon's Lair, Tom admits that his mom may be right about the secret hurting people. Jun advises him it might be time to share it, but Tom fears it could be worse. He believes he is nothing like Hiccup and can't bring humans and dragons together, but Jun and Alex point out he's already done that with them. Tom discovers Olivia and Philip are going for help in the helicopter since things are getting more dangerous, despite the danger of flying in the harsh winds. During the flight, the rotor begins freezing and cause Olivia to lose control. The helicopter flies over the fissure and clips the wall, sending Olivia falling out and into the fissure. Before she plummets to a certain demise, Tom rescues her on Thunder, revealing him to everyone, while Jun, Wu and Wei, Alex, and Feathers try to rescue Philip and the helicopter. But when Phil sees the dragons, he gets startled, loses his grip, and falls. Luckily, he's saved by D'Angelo and Plowhorn, while Eugene and Webmaster help save the helicopter. The dragons bring everyone to safety and Tom introduces everyone to the dragons. He tells them that while they may look fearsome, they can be great friends and allies if they are shown respect and protected. D'Angelo adds that all ICARIS employees are under strict secrecy guidelines that forbid them from telling anyone else outside of the company about the dragons. Linda returns with the winter gear and is followed by Sledkin, who tries to expose the secret, but discovers its already happened. Plowhorn helps make a bonfire to keep everyone warm, but when Eugene tries to show off, he ends up startling Wu and Wei into accidentally knocking the helicopter into the fissure. With the introduction of dragons off to an uncertain start, Tom notes that "this is going to take some work".
