|“||I'm a good person, I hope. But I'm never as good as I want to be, never as nice as I want to be, never as generous as I want to be.||”|
|— David Tennant|
David Tennant is an award-winning Scottish actor who has appeared in such productions as Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (as Barty Crouch Jr.), Casanova (as Giacomo Casanova), and Single Father (as Dave Tiler). One of his most well-known roles was that of The Doctor in the BBC show Doctor Who, in which he played the character for almost 5 years (the 10th actor to play the role).
David was born David John McDonald in Bathgate, West Lothian, Scotland to a Presbyterian minister and his wife. As early as 3 years old, he decided he wanted to act and was spotted first by Scottish TV while performing in a youth theatre club when he was 16. He would move on to attending the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and his pivotal career role came with the BBC TV production Takin' Over the Asylum. Finally, in 1996 at the age of 25, David joined the Royal Shakespeare Company, the same as his Dragons colleague, Alfred Molina, had 19 years earlier.
Tennant narrated the audiobook versions of Cressida Cowell's How to Train Your Dragon novels, leading some readers to speculate that his performance was the inspiration for the Scottish accents of the adults in the film. He was mentioned in the last book's acknowledgements.
Tennant plays a minor role in the How to Train Your Dragon film adaptation, subsequent TV series, and the Netflix Original series as Snotlout's father, Spitelout Jorgenson, as well as supplying additional voices for some of the other Vikings of Berk.
