The Bubblegill is a dragon that first appeared in "Return to the Sunken City" of the Dragons: Rescue Riders series.
Physical Appearance[]
Hatchling to Adult[]
Bubblegills have two pairs of legs and one pair of wings. They have relatively few adornments on their bodies, but do have a crown of spaced-out hard knobs on their heads and a small line of nobs down their spines. Their skulls appear have a large cranium extending back behind their eyes, to which their necks attach. It is unclear if this skull space is related to the brain case, or some large muscle attachments or some feature of their breath ability. The wings of the Bubblegills are long and narrow, ending in a point, reminiscent of a lance-shaped leaf. Their tails end in a similarly-shaped fin.
Bubblegills come in a combination of two colors. Of the individuals seen, one is cyan and yellow, and the other rose and purple. Both have yellow highlights on their legs and parts of their wing membranes, as well as pale yellow underbellies.
Abilities[]
Bubble Blast[]
Bubblegills are capable of shooting a massive barrage of bubbles from their mouths. They can control the size and quantity of the bubbles they are shooting. The bubble membranes are fairly durable and stable, capable of trapping something inside of them. A very sharp object can penetrate and burst the bubble, however. Bubblegills can also combine their bubble blasts to create one large bubble able to engulf large machinery.
Alpha Crystal Immunity[]
The Bubblegills have an unexplained immunity to the Alpha crystals that come from the back of the Bewilderbeast. According to Bubbley and Bobbley, this resistance made their species the perfect dragon to guard those crystals.
Speed and Agility[]
Bubbley and Bobbley have been shown to be capable of dodging the attacks of many dragons, not getting hit once.
Behavior and Personality[]
Of the individuals seen, Bubblegills appear to be friendly, outgoing dragons, but very dedicated and loyal to a cause. They appear to have close-knit family groups, as the brothers Bubbley and Bobbley inherited the position of Alpha Crystal Guardians from their Great Uncle Babbley.

In "Return to the Sunken City", the Rescue Riders discover a metal tablet hidden within another tablet that documents the existence of Alpha Crystals hidden in the sunken city of Valantis. The tablet also details that the crystals are protected by Bubblegills. After overhearing the Rescue Riders talk about the crystals, Magnus Finke and Axel Finke race to Valantis to find the crystals first. While looking elsewhere, the Rescue Riders discover a hidden chamber and the Bubblegill dragon brothers Bobbley and Bubbley. After explaining the situation with the Finkes, the Bubblegills reveal that they hid the crystals in the library, where the Finkes find them. Magnus uses the crystals to control all the dragons of the Rescue Rider team. However, Bubbley and Bobbley help free the dragons and retrieve the Alpha crystals, due to their special resistance to the crystals' acoustics.
Trivia[]
- Since Bubblegill dragons are immune to the hypnotic effects of the Alpha Crystals, it is possible they may also be resistant to a living Bewilderbeast's mind manipulation ability.
