Fishlegs: "What do you know about Brainpickers, Hiccup?"
Hiccup: "Well, I know they feed on people's brains by sucking them out through their ears.

Brainpickers are first discussed in How to Steal a Dragon's Sword, and then mentioned in a few other books.

Physical Appearance[]

It is a small Cave Dragon feared by all others, even the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus. There is not much of a description, nor any picture of them. Brainpickers have some sort of proboscis, or "pick", through which it devours the brain of its victim.

Although they're quite small, Brainpickers are one of the most feared dragons in the Archipelago. Even Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus are afraid of them, because nobody likes the idea of having their brain sucked out.

Abilities[]

The "pick" and its diet of brains is the Brainpicker's main asset. Even the largest dragon in the Books, the Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus fears them. They will eat human brains, dragon brains, or even badger brains, whatever is available.

In The Incomplete Book of Dragons, Brainpickers are noted to have excellent smell and hearing, as well as the ability to speak Dragonese.

Weaknesses[]

In How to Fight a Dragon's Fury, Brainpickers are shown to be vulnerable to heavy artillery fire:

Even the mighty Rageblasts, or Savagers, or Brainpickers, when hit with those cannonballs, fell shrieking from the sky.
