The Beaver is an animal minimally seen in the How to Train Your Dragon Franchise.
Description
The beaver is a rodent of the genus Castor, which includes two actual species: the North American beaver (Castor canadensis) and the Eurasian beaver (Castor fiber). It is the second largest rodent after the capybara.
The beaver is known for its natural trait of building dams on rivers and streams, using tree logs and branches, which it cuts with its long, constantly growing teeth. It is also known for its unique alarm signal: when in danger, the beaver will rapidly dive while forcefully slapping the water with its broad tail, alerting other beavers of a possible threat.
Function
In the franchise, a dead beaver is seen hanging on a wall in a kitchen, implying that is used either for ornamental purposes, or food.
In real life, the beaver was haunted almost to near extinction for its fur and skin, as well as nails. Beavers produce a substance called castoreum, which is used for many medical purposes.
