Physical Description[]
Almonds are the seeds of the almond tree in the genus Prunus. Trees of this genus produce seeds encased in hard shells known as drupes. Almonds are commonly used in a variety of food items, such as almond milk, which consists of compressed almonds and serves as a dairy milk substitute, and almond meal, which, when combined with sugar and honey, becomes marzipan, which is often used as a gluten-free alternative to wheat flour when cooking or baking. The seeds themselves can also be eaten alone, either in their shells or after their shells are removed using a practice called shelling.
Function[]
The main function for the almond in both reality and the Franchise is food. Specifically, marzipan is referenced in the Franchise, which is a combination of almond meal, sugar, and honey that is used as a gluten-free replacement for wheat flower when cooking or baking. They also may be used in salads. In Asia, especially South East Asia, almonds are often used in meat, poultry, fish and vegetarian dishes.
