How to Train Your Dragon Wiki

Al Nelson is a sound designer for several of the DreamWorks Dragons works.

Biography[]

Al Nelson is the creator of the sounds for the dragons in How to Train Your Dragon, Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon, Gift of the Night Fury, and more. Each dragon has its own unique sounds which also should fit the size, gender, personality and many other properties of these special reptiles. A great challenge—especially when there are no real dragons which can be recorded. He is also known for many Pixar movies, such as Finding Nemo, Up, and many others. He currently works at the legendary Skywalker Sound, and has been there for over 25 years.

For How to Train Your Dragon, he won the Golden Reel Award for the Best Sound Editing in Feature Film Animation. He was also nominated for a Golden Reel for Best Sound Editing - Direct to Video for Gift of the Night Fury.
